A Trip to Germany Unit Study 1
Do you want to get your child excited about learning German?
Are you wanting to increase your child's knowledge of German language, German customs and culture? Are you not quite confident in your own ability to tackle this subject?
Not to worry - come with us on a trip to Germany!
No, not a real trip - this trip takes place right in the comfort of your own home. Prepare for your trip, learn about getting a passport, experience an airport, all the while learning about German customs and culture and learning lots of German along the way.
This unit study will guide you and your child on an imaginary trip using "living books" - real books, most of them in German, with captivating pictures and stories. Using our guide you will teach your child German phrases he can use while traveling, practice telling time (it's a bit different in German!), and lots more.
If you don't have the time or can't afford to take a trip to Germany this year, this unit study is the next best thing.
An Immersion Experience
We believe the best way to learn German is through immersion and real-life experiences. Conversation and reading books in German about real life activities will make a bigger impression and be much more meaningful to your child than an ordinary workbook activity. That's why we've put together this package - it's got all the materials you'll need to imagine a trip abroad. Your kids will be excited to participate and won't even realize this is "work."
A Trip to Germany was developed by Sarah Menkin, a German teacher and tutor.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. My German isn't very good. How well should I be able to speak German to do this unit with my child?
A. A basic knowledge of German is recommended. All directions and explanations for you are written in English but most of the books are native German. You don't need to be fluent; in fact, there is some dictionary practice for advanced students that even parents will benefit from. We do recommend that you speak as much German as possible when working through this program with your child.
Q. What is the recommended age range of this study?
A. This unit study is targeted toward children ages 5-12 but can also be extended for younger children. As with any book, we recommend you tailor the discussion to your child's age and abilities.
Still Not Sure?
