Max und der Keks will charm young children. This 28 page book tells the story of Max who loves eating cookies and what happens when his dog, Wauwau, tries to eat his cookie. My 9 month old son enjoys this story. He finds the rhythm of the story quite appealing.
Although the story was originally written in Swedish, the German translation was written with a cadence that unfailingly brings a smile to my baby. (The story opens as follows: "Guck mal, da kommt Max/Max will einen Keks haben/ Max mag Keks/ Lecker lecker Keks")
While the publisher recommends this book for children ages 24 months to 4 years, my 9 month old was enthralled. Those readers who are avid animal lovers might be mildly troubled by the part of the story in which Wauwau steals a cookie. We see an illustration showing Max pulling Wauwau's ear; a few pages later we see Wauwau biting Max's bottom. Ouch! This part of the story can teach children to have a healthy fear of pets.
With its darling pictures and rhythmic cadence, this book is sure to appeal to young readers!
