Things to Do with Your Kids in German
Try some of these ideas and help your children improve their German while having
a great time!
- Bake cookies using a recipe in German (we
have a great one here).
- Play Simon
Says in German.
- Learn a new
finger play (Fingerspiel).
- Write a letter to a German pen pal or relative.
- Do a crossword
puzzle in German.
- Pick a letter of the alphabet and try to name as many German words as you
can that start with that letter.
- Go to the zoo and name as many animals as possible. Talk about what they
are doing (eating, sleeping, playing, etc.)
- Browse the Internet for fun German websites for kids.
- Write a story in German. Read it to a German-speaking friend or relative
in Germany.
- Pick a city or landmark in Germany and plan a pretend trip there. Research
via friends, family and Internet.
- Plant some sunflower seeds in a pot and watch them grow. Once it sprouts,
measure the plant and keep a growth log in German.
- Play "I Spy" in German.
- Learn a tonguetwister.
- Fingerpaint and talk about the colors you use. Talk about how they change
when mixed together.
- Make a calendar and talk about the months and days of the week. Hang it
on the wall and write in the weather every day (heiß, windig, kalt,
naß, usw.)
- Practice saying your address, telephone number, and birthday in German.
- Read a book!
